With Shared Web Hosting you can create email addresses at your own domain, such as info@yourdomain.com. You create each mailbox once in cPanel, your hosting control panel. Then you can read it in Webmail or add it to your phone and computer.

Note

These steps are for Blue Arctic Shared Web Hosting mailboxes, which use cPanel. Managed WordPress Hosting doesn’t include email. On a VPS, open a support ticket if you’re not sure how your email is set up.

Create the email account

  1. Log in to cPanel. If you can’t log in, open a support ticket.
  2. In the cPanel sidebar, click Email.
  3. Click New email account.
  4. In Email Address, type the part of the address before the @ sign, for example info or jane. If you have more than one domain, check that the address uses the right one. Check the spelling: you can’t rename an address later.
  5. Select Set Password.
  6. Type a strong password, or click Generate to have cPanel create one.
  7. Save the password in a password manager. You’ll need it on every device that uses this address.
  8. Leave Storage Quota and the other options as they are, unless you want a different storage size (see below).
  9. Click Create Account.

If you see an Email Accounts icon instead, click it, then click Create. The fields there are Username and Password, and the last button is Create. Or type the tool’s name in cPanel’s search box (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K). If you can’t find it, open a support ticket.

Choose a strong password

A stolen email password lets attackers send spam from your domain, which can hurt delivery for every address you own. cPanel rates the password as you type and may refuse one that is too weak.

  • Use at least 12 characters. A phrase of several unrelated words works well.
  • Don’t reuse a password from another website.
  • Don’t include the address name, your business name or your domain.

Storage size

Storage space, also called the quota, is the most mail this mailbox can hold. When it’s full, the mailbox can’t receive new mail until you make room or raise the limit. To change the size later, click Email, click Manage in the address’s row, open the Settings tab, click Edit Quota, enter the new size, and click Save. See also how to fix a full mailbox.

How to tell it worked

  1. Check that the new address appears in the list on the Email page.
  2. Click Manage in its row, then click Open Webmail. Webmail opens in a new browser tab. (With an Email Accounts icon instead, click Check Email next to the address.)
  3. If the Webmail home page opens, click Open in the Open your inbox section.
  4. Send a test message to another address you own, and check that it arrives.
  5. Reply to it, and check that the reply arrives in Webmail.

If the reply doesn’t arrive, your domain’s email may still be delivered somewhere else, for example while you’re moving to Blue Arctic. See what to do when you can’t receive email.

Troubleshooting

  • The password is rejected as too weak: make it longer, or click Generate.
  • Your domain isn’t offered for the new address: the domain hasn’t been added to your hosting account yet. Open a support ticket and ask us to add it, then come back.
  • cPanel says the address already exists: it’s probably already a mailbox. Check the list on the Email page. If it isn’t there, open a support ticket with the exact error text.
  • cPanel won’t let you create another account: open a support ticket to ask about your options. Warning: deleting an address you no longer use frees a place, but it erases all of its mail for good, and our backups don’t include email. Save any mail you need before you delete an address.
  • The mailbox works in Webmail but not on your phone: compare the phone’s settings with Set Up Mail Client, as described in Next steps.

Still need help?

Open a support ticket from the Client Portal at my.bluearctic.com (see our support page). Include your domain, the email address you tried to create, the exact error text, a screenshot, and what you already tried. Never include a password.
