How to Set Up Email on Android (Gmail and Samsung Email)

Get your secure settings from cPanel (Set Up Mail Client). In the Gmail app, tap your profile picture, then Add another account > Other > Personal (IMAP), and enter the servers with SSL/TLS. Samsung Email works the same way from Settings > Accounts and backup.

Most Android phones include the Gmail app, which can also handle mail from other providers, including your Blue Arctic mailbox. Samsung phones also offer Samsung Email. Either way, add the address as an IMAP account so mail stays on the server and in sync with your other devices.

Note

These steps are for Blue Arctic Shared Web Hosting mailboxes, which use cPanel. Managed WordPress Hosting doesn’t include email. On a VPS, open a support ticket if you’re not sure how your email is set up.

Before you start: get your settings

  1. Log in to cPanel. If you can’t log in, open a support ticket.
  2. In the cPanel sidebar, click Email.
  3. Find the address in the list, and click Manage in its row.
  4. On the Overview tab, click Open Webmail. Webmail opens in a new browser tab.
  5. If your inbox opens instead of the Webmail home page, click cPanel Webmail Home.
  6. In the Set up email on your device panel, click Automatically configure my device. The Set Up Mail Client page opens.
  7. Keep the Secure SSL/TLS Settings section (marked Recommended) open. You’ll copy the servers and ports from it.

If you see an Email Accounts icon instead, click it, then click Connect Devices next to the address. Or type the tool’s name in cPanel’s search box (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K). If you can’t find it, open a support ticket.

The ports are usually 993 for incoming mail (IMAP) and 465 for outgoing mail (SMTP). Use exactly what Set Up Mail Client shows. SSL/TLS encrypts the connection, so nobody can read your password on the way.

Warning

On the server screens, set the security type to SSL/TLS. Never choose None, even if the app suggests it or shows “Email security not guaranteed”: your password would travel without encryption. If a security option says it accepts all certificates, don’t choose it either. It turns off the check that you’ve reached the real server.

Add your email to the Gmail app

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. At the top right, in the search bar, tap your profile picture (Profile).
  3. Tap Add another account, then tap Other.
  4. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  5. Choose Personal (IMAP).
  6. Enter your mailbox password and tap Next.
  7. On the incoming server screen, use your full email address as the username.
  8. Enter the incoming server from Set Up Mail Client in IMAP server.
  9. Set IMAP port to the port Set Up Mail Client shows, and set Security type to SSL/TLS.
  10. On the outgoing server screen, if the app asks whether to sign in to send mail, choose yes.
  11. Enter the outgoing server from Set Up Mail Client, its port and the security type SSL/TLS.
  12. Use your full email address and mailbox password for the outgoing server too.
  13. Follow the on-screen steps to finish.

Add your email to Samsung Email

If Samsung Email isn’t on your phone, install it from the Galaxy Store or Google Play first.

  1. Open Settings and tap Accounts and backup.
  2. Tap Manage accounts, then tap + Add account.
  3. Tap Email.
  4. Choose the option for other email providers.
  5. Enter your full email address and password.
  6. If you see a way to set up the account manually, choose it, and pick the IMAP account type.
  7. Enter the same incoming and outgoing settings as in the Gmail steps above, with SSL/TLS on both, and finish the on-screen steps.

If you can’t find a manual or IMAP option, use the Gmail app steps above instead, or open a support ticket with screenshots of each screen. Hide the password first.

How to tell it worked

  1. Send a test message from the new account to another address you own, and check that it arrives.
  2. Reply to it, and check that the reply arrives in the app.

Troubleshooting

  • The app can’t sign in: check that the username is your full email address. If you’re not sure of the password, set a new one. Warning: every other device that uses this address stops connecting until you enter the new password there too. In cPanel, click Email, click Manage in the address’s row, and open the Settings tab. Click Change Password, enter the new password, and click Update Password. (With an Email Accounts icon: Manage, New Password, Update Email Settings.)
  • A certificate or security warning: don’t accept it (see the warning above). Use the exact server name from Set Up Mail Client. If SSL/TLS still fails, open a support ticket.
  • Receiving works but sending fails: turn on sign-in for the outgoing server and check the port against Set Up Mail Client. If it fails on one network only, that network may block the port: try another network, or open a support ticket. See what to check when you can’t send email.
  • New mail shows up late: check how often the app syncs in the account’s settings.
